About Rollins Square

Rollins Square condos are located in the hip, revitalized SoWa (South of Washington Street) section of the South End, and offer a deluxe lifestyle in a dynamic neighborhood of Boston.  Although there are 184 living units, Rollins Square condos convey an intimate feel in a low-rise building with private entrances for unit clusters, eliminating the institutional feel that many large-scale luxury condo buildings can have.  The building features townhouse style homes spreading over two floors.  The units have central heat and air conditioning, carpeted and hardwood floors and luxurious working fireplaces.  There is an on-site professional management team that looks after Rollins Square around the clock.  The grounds include a landscaped park, 6,000 square feet of retail space and an underground parking garage.  Rollins Square is even innovative in its operations: the condominium association recently installed a co-generation unit for the development, saving $75,000 per year in energy costs.

SoWa was known for decades as a mill and warehouse district where pianos, canned goods, shoes and other merchandise were manufactured.  In recent years the South End, and SoWa in particular, has come to life as the cultural hub of Boston.  SoWa is home to some of the city’s best boutiques, galleries, restaurants and open markets.  From May to October, SoWa has open markets each Sunday with local artisans, food trucks and extensive farmer’s market.  SoWa is home to hundreds of art studios and has a long-standing tradition called First Fridays, where studio owners open their doors on the first Friday of every month to welcome neighbors.  The closeness of the Boston Center for the Arts, Boston Ballet, and BU Medical Campus might be of particular value to some residents.  Additionally, the neighborhood attracts a diverse demographic of inhabitants and offers top-notch ethnic restaurants along Tremont Street, such as Brazilian, Ethiopian, Thai, Indian, Middle Eastern, Cuban and French.  The area is also home to many trendy, young bars and lounges for late-night entertainment.

SoWa is an area in the South End neighborhood.  The South End was built on the filled tidal flats during the mid-1800s.  The neighborhood was designed to attract the wealth merchant class, with large Victorian townhouses surrounding park squares.  At the turn of the century, wealthier Bostonians chose neighboring Back Bay instead of the South End, opening the area to a diverse working class.  The signature South End townhouses were carved into apartments and lodging houses.  In the 1950s, the South End was selected as an urban renewal area, with scattered affordable housing developments constructed throughout the neighborhood.  The area began to be revitalized by an influx of young professionals moving to the neighborhood, restoring the housing stock and turning many of the units into larger apartments, condominiums, and single family homes.  The area’s commercial centers run along Massachusetts Avenue, Tremont Street and Washington Street and serves increasingly diverse populations.

The MBTA’s Silver Line, the Massachusetts TurnPike and Interstate 93 are easily accessible from Rollins Square.
