In part of a 4th of July tradition, the U.S.S. Constitution raised its colors, hoisted its sails and left port from the Charlestown Navy Yard for its annual turnaround.  “Old Ironsides” is the oldest vessel still commissioned in the United States Naval fleet.

In the Boston Harbor last Monday, the warship sailed along the Boston Waterfront until it reached Castle Island where its crew conducted a 21-gun salute from its battery of canons before turning around and returning to its home for another year.  Here’s a video of this year’s event.  Doesn’t get any more patriotic than this… Happy Birthday, America.

Boston Harbor Fest held near Boston Waterfront and North End neighborhoods

Boston Harborfest kicks offs this year from June 29th to July 4th.

It’s that patriotic time of year to start celebrating the independence of this great nation.  And Oh what a fun-filled and exciting Fourth of July it will be on the Boston Waterfront.  Fireworks, barbeques, frosty beverages, historical actors… we can’t think of any better way to commemorate our nation’s birthday than here in one of the greatest cities in American history.

The Boston Harborfest is already in full swing, kicking off its opening ceremony Wednesday, June 29.  Its festivities carry on until July 4th with more than 200 daily events for you to enjoy.  It’s definitely a big favorite Independence Day event of ours here in the North End and Boston Waterfront.  You can find that everything takes place either at Faneuil Hall or around the Government Plaza – a very short walk from many of our Boston Waterfront luxury real estate.

Taste of the North End

Filed under: North End Amenities, North End Boston, North End Events, North End Luxury Condos, North End Waterfront Condos, Things to Do in Boston, Uncategorized. • Tags: , . By

Some of CL Waterfront’s North End residents got a “taste” of the neighborhood at the 17th annual event “Taste of the North End” last Friday, May 6.  The event was attended by over 700 people and featured foods from 37 different restaurants throughout the North End. Some of tTaste of the North Endhe restaurants including in the tasting were Ducali, Tresca, Lucca, Filippo, among many others.

For the first time in about ten years the event was brought back to the neighborhood for which it represents. In the past the “Taste of the North End” has been held at Saint John School, the Coast Guard base, and the New England Aquarium. This year local residents were pleased to see that the venue was much more open and had returned to its roots. The “Taste” annually raises funds for neighborhood charities, including the North End Waterfront Health Center. Throughout the past 17 years the event has raised over $1 million for these local charities – this year the event raised over $100,000.

The enthusiasm for this event and the North End neighborhood are obvious through the ongoing participation of local restaurants and the attendees who return every year. Included in these habitual “tasters” is State Representative, Aaron Michlewitz, who noted how important the event is for the community when he said, “It shows the uniqueness of our neighborhood and how many great restaurants we have and how many great things we have going on in the neighborhood.” This event truly is a tribute to the local businesses in the North End and a testimonial to its extraordinary community atmosphere.

Most couples make it a priority to get out of the house and have a ‘Date Night’ on Valentine’s Day, something the can get lost over time.

Barlola in a great date spot for Valentine's Day in Boston

Tapas are a Good Date Idea

The city of Boston is saturated with restaurants of all kinds!  You and your Valentine can enjoy some American cuisine such as Union Bar & Grill in the South End, or Towne in Back Bay.  Tapas/ small plates style restaurants are really popular, such as Cuchi Cuchi or Dali in Cambridge, Barlola in Back Bay, and the Ristorante Damiano in the North End.  If French foods are more what you had in mind, Sel de la Terre has locations in Back Bay and a new Waterfront location as well, or take a trip to Beacon Hill Bistro in Beacon Hill.  Moroccan cuisine makes a unique evening at hot spots like Tangierino in Charlestown.  Of course Italian cuisine is extremely popular, such as Tresca and Prezza in the North End.

Let’s face it; Italian cuisine is the obvious choice for 99% of people going out on Feb. 14th!  The North End/ Waterfront area provides you with the ultimate setting for a Valentine’s Date Night!  The smell of garlic, pastries and espresso in the air, little Italian men selling roses on the street, the violin player making his way to every table in any restaurant that will have him, and the vibe on one of Boston’s most historic streets Hanover just adds to the perfect back drop for the night.

Marco, Best Date Restaurant

Marco, Best Date Restaurant

One of the best North End/Waterfront locations to make the night special is in a tiny restaurant of 10 tables, a stone fireplace, and the feeling of actually being in Italy –Marco.  Marco is hidden on the second floor located at 253 Hanover St, above Café Paradiso.  When you call to make your reservation, make sure you ask for the table near the front window and fireplace, your date will be VERY IMPRESSED.

Once you have finished dinner, make your way onto Hanover Street to one of Boston’s most historic landmarks – Mike’s Pastries – for a cannoli.  If an after-dinner glass of wine is your choice, Bricco on Hanover Street or the wine bar located on Richmond St – Vinoteca di Monica, are the perfect stop!  After a big meal and a few glasses of wine, a great way to wake up for the trip home is to sit and finish the night with an espresso at Boston’s first Italian Café – Caffe Victoria on Hanover St in the North End.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day and make is special for that someone in your life!

Best Boston Waterfront and North End Parking Deals

Filed under: Boston Waterfront Amenities, Boston Waterfront Luxury Buildings, North End Amenities, North End Boston, Waterfront Boston. • Tags: , . By

Posted by:  Joe Taglieri

Parking in the city of Boston can be difficult if you’re not familiar with the area.  I’ve compiled a list of the best parking deals in the Boston Waterfront and Boston’s North End to help guide you.

Parcel 7 Garage is where I always park if I’m going to North End/Waterfront and plan to not stay for more then 3 hours. Unfortunately, others also know about this garage . . . so sometimes it’s full.  If you plan to park at Parcel 7, always have a back-up parking garage choice in mind.

Parcel 7 Garage aka “Haymarket Garage”

Address:  136 Blackstone Street
Located right at the beginning of Hanover St.

Quick & Easy Access To: Haymarket, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, Government Center, and City Hall Plaza.  You can also walk across the Greenway to the North End, Boston Waterfront, Boston cruises, and the New England Aquarium.

Also Reasonably Close To: TD Garden and North End / nightlife venues, Waterfront, Downtown Boston

Daily Rates: $28 if you’re there for more than 3 hours

You also can get bargain rates with Haymarket vendor validation:  $1 for 1-2 hours parking, and parking is only $3 for up to 3 hours, however the regular $28 per day rate kicks in if you park for over 3 hours.  This is really, really cheap (if you shop at Haymarket & North End or want to visit the Waterfront), really, really convenient, and in my opinion, one of the best parking bargains in Boston!

There are several other nearby parking deals along the North End’s Waterfront, Commercial Street, and Atlantic Avenue to be found at various small parking lots.  Parking rates tend to vary depending on the day, time, and season, so your best bet is to either drive by to see the advertised prices or call the parking garages in advance and inquire.  Several Boston parking garages offer ‘Early Bird’ rates- at least some of the time.

Here are a few more parking options you can consider when visiting Boston’s Waterfront or North End:

The Enjoyment and Convenience of Waterfront Living

North End BostonPerhaps you’re an empty-nester or just looking to make life a little easier by downsizing.  If so, then this is a great time to seize the moment and make the move to the North End/Waterfront, since interest rates are still at an all time low and the prices for condos are still lower. When choosing a location within the city, you will undoubtedly consider what makes a neighborhood most attractive.

Residing within walking distance of some of the city’s finest restaurants, theaters, sailing centers, universities and hospitals makes the Waterfront so very attractive.  Try taking cooking classes at a North End restaurant or a sailing class at the Boston Sailing Center.  The North Bennet Street School located in North End has been teaching craftsmanship for 125 years.  The school offers classes in Woodworking, Jewelry, Calligraphy, and Bookbinding just to mention a few.

Perhaps take a stroll over to Charlestown to visit the U.S.S. Constitution or Bunker Hill Monument.  Perhaps take a harbor walk along the Waterfront on a glorious day by stepping out your front door.

Glide to a Celtics or Bruins game and amble home in a matter of minutes.  There’s more enjoyment and gratification in entertaining your family and friends when all these sites can be visited without the use of an automobile. Boston’s Waterfront offers all this and much, much more.
