World’s Largest Private Yacht finds port on North End Waterfront

Filed under: Boston Waterfront Amenities, Boston Waterfront Luxury Buildings, CL Waterfront Properties NEWS, Commercial Wharf East, North End Boston, North End Events, North End Waterfront Condos, Waterfront Boston. • Tags: , . By

The fair winds and high seas have carried a boat, a very big boat, to our docks this week at Yacht Haven, Commercial Wharf.  In fact, it is the largest private yacht on Earth, called Eos, that found port here on the North End Waterfront.  Named after the Greek titan goddess of the dawn, this three masted rigged schooner at 305 feet long with 200-foot masts is a magnificent sight to behold.

The vessel was once owned by now CEO of IAC/Interactive and creator of Fox and USA Broadcasting, Barry Diller, but today’s owner is unknown.  It hit the  seas in 2006, has a crew 21-man crew and valued at more than $150 million.

The ship has visited a number of ports along the North Atlantic coast this summer at such locations as Nantucket, Provincetown, and Martha’s Vineyard, to name a few.  For more pictures and info about the Eos, visit MarineTraffic.com.

Study Says Hazmat Trucks Too Dangerous for Waterfront

Filed under: Boston Waterfront Luxury Buildings, CL Waterfront Properties NEWS, North End Boston, Things to Do in Boston, Waterfront Boston. • Tags: , . By

TONIGHT: A community meeting on this Hazmat routing study has been scheduled for tonight, Thursday, May 19th at 7pm at the Nazzaro Center. The address for the meeting is 30 N. Bennet Street, and all are encouraged to attend.

The public safety study on the hazardous material, Hazmat, trucks has finally achieved recognition at Boston’s City Hall. According to Boston city officials, the hazardous materials study supports the banning of these trucks from going through any Waterfront and North End streets in Boston. The analysis also further recommends that these trucks be routed completely outside the city.

hazmat ban study revealed for north end and waterfront

Gasoline Tanker Truck in the Waterfront / North End area

This study was contacted by Boston in Spring 2010 after the FMCSA forced the city to stop the daytime ban of trucking routes, which was done in response to trucking companies petitioning that Boston failed to properly analyze truck routes after the Big Dig. Before the Big Dig, hazmat trucks traveled on I-93, and were not allowed to travel inside tunnels or surface streets.

This ban elimination occurred in May 2010, which caused an uproar in the Waterfront and North End neighborhoods, where countless residents have submitted letters and signatures in order to pressure State officials to resolve the situation.

The study has not currently been made public, but it implores the Federal and State authorities to stop these hazmat trucks from traveling through Boston unless they have business with the city, such as gas station deliveries. This restriction would cut down the significant traffic that these trucks represent in the city, which is hundreds of trucks per day.

For our neighbors and clients in the Waterfront and North End, this could potentially eliminate hazmat trucks entirely from Cross Street, Atlantic Avenue, Commercial Street, and N. Washington Street from the Greenway to the Charlestown Bridge.

The results of the study will be revealed and discussed at the community meeting tonight, and city officials are anticipating a positive neighborhood reaction from residents who have long-protested the trucks. So be sure to attend at 7pm tonight!

Taste of the North End

Filed under: North End Amenities, North End Boston, North End Events, North End Luxury Condos, North End Waterfront Condos, Things to Do in Boston, Uncategorized. • Tags: , . By

Some of CL Waterfront’s North End residents got a “taste” of the neighborhood at the 17th annual event “Taste of the North End” last Friday, May 6.  The event was attended by over 700 people and featured foods from 37 different restaurants throughout the North End. Some of tTaste of the North Endhe restaurants including in the tasting were Ducali, Tresca, Lucca, Filippo, among many others.

For the first time in about ten years the event was brought back to the neighborhood for which it represents. In the past the “Taste of the North End” has been held at Saint John School, the Coast Guard base, and the New England Aquarium. This year local residents were pleased to see that the venue was much more open and had returned to its roots. The “Taste” annually raises funds for neighborhood charities, including the North End Waterfront Health Center. Throughout the past 17 years the event has raised over $1 million for these local charities – this year the event raised over $100,000.

The enthusiasm for this event and the North End neighborhood are obvious through the ongoing participation of local restaurants and the attendees who return every year. Included in these habitual “tasters” is State Representative, Aaron Michlewitz, who noted how important the event is for the community when he said, “It shows the uniqueness of our neighborhood and how many great restaurants we have and how many great things we have going on in the neighborhood.” This event truly is a tribute to the local businesses in the North End and a testimonial to its extraordinary community atmosphere.

Most couples make it a priority to get out of the house and have a ‘Date Night’ on Valentine’s Day, something the can get lost over time.

Barlola in a great date spot for Valentine's Day in Boston

Tapas are a Good Date Idea

The city of Boston is saturated with restaurants of all kinds!  You and your Valentine can enjoy some American cuisine such as Union Bar & Grill in the South End, or Towne in Back Bay.  Tapas/ small plates style restaurants are really popular, such as Cuchi Cuchi or Dali in Cambridge, Barlola in Back Bay, and the Ristorante Damiano in the North End.  If French foods are more what you had in mind, Sel de la Terre has locations in Back Bay and a new Waterfront location as well, or take a trip to Beacon Hill Bistro in Beacon Hill.  Moroccan cuisine makes a unique evening at hot spots like Tangierino in Charlestown.  Of course Italian cuisine is extremely popular, such as Tresca and Prezza in the North End.

Let’s face it; Italian cuisine is the obvious choice for 99% of people going out on Feb. 14th!  The North End/ Waterfront area provides you with the ultimate setting for a Valentine’s Date Night!  The smell of garlic, pastries and espresso in the air, little Italian men selling roses on the street, the violin player making his way to every table in any restaurant that will have him, and the vibe on one of Boston’s most historic streets Hanover just adds to the perfect back drop for the night.

Marco, Best Date Restaurant

Marco, Best Date Restaurant

One of the best North End/Waterfront locations to make the night special is in a tiny restaurant of 10 tables, a stone fireplace, and the feeling of actually being in Italy –Marco.  Marco is hidden on the second floor located at 253 Hanover St, above Café Paradiso.  When you call to make your reservation, make sure you ask for the table near the front window and fireplace, your date will be VERY IMPRESSED.

Once you have finished dinner, make your way onto Hanover Street to one of Boston’s most historic landmarks – Mike’s Pastries – for a cannoli.  If an after-dinner glass of wine is your choice, Bricco on Hanover Street or the wine bar located on Richmond St – Vinoteca di Monica, are the perfect stop!  After a big meal and a few glasses of wine, a great way to wake up for the trip home is to sit and finish the night with an espresso at Boston’s first Italian Café – Caffe Victoria on Hanover St in the North End.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day and make is special for that someone in your life!
