Her name is Carmela Laurella of CL Waterfront Properties. Carmela has made 4 dreams come true for me to date … she is currently working on a  fifth!!! Her knowledge of the properties, neighborhood, market is not to be surpassed by anyone that I have ever dealt with in real estate. Equestrian Statue of Paul Revere in the Prado with the North Church in the Background

NEWRA Parks and Recreation Committee plans to restore the Prado

Prado has become the new center of attention for the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association’s Parks and Recreations Committee. A NEWRA monthly meeting was recently held this week at the Nazzaro Center and the committee expressed the Prado being in poor condition with crumbling brick, unkempt trees and weathered granite features.

The committee hopes to raise awareness to the historical site in the North End during the 150th birthday of sculptor Cyrus E. Dallin who created the Equestrian Statue of Paul Revere that resides in the Prado.

Even though Cyrus E. Dallin’s birthday is on November 22, the committee plans to throw the event in April 2012 in conjunction with the Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum in Arlington, Massachusetts.

Hazmat Truck Re-Routing Proposal

Filed under: Boston Waterfront Luxury Buildings, North End Boston, North End Luxury Condos, North End Waterfront Condos, Waterfront Boston. • Tags: , . By

Driving through Boston can be a tricky business – especially if you’re driving a truck carrying hazardous material. The fiery truck accident on Route 1 in Saugus in July made many people much more aware of the potential threat of a hazardous material truck accident in the city of Boston.

Hazmat Truck Accident in Saugus MA

Hazmat Truck Explosion on Route 1 in Saugus

Currently streets going through the North End – including Atlantic Ave., Commercial St., Cross St. and North Washington St. – experience 100+ hazmat trucks each day. The consequences of an accident as bad as the hazmat truck explosion in July would be disastrous in the city of Boston. Many concerned residents of the North End and Waterfront District attended the public hearing held at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s headquarters last week to voice their opinions regarding the re-routing of pass-through trucks from Boston streets to highways outside the city such as Route 128. Based upon the 182-page public safety analysis conducted by an independent, Ohio-based research company it has been strongly recommended that the trucks be re-routed to highways outside of the city. While the majority of city officials, including Mayor Menino, support the proposed re-routing of these pass-through hazmat trucks there is opposition from the trucking companies as a result of the increased time and cost that this re-routing would cause.

If you’re living in a North End apartment you should vote to have these trucks re-routed to highways outside of the city. In the upcoming weeks similar public hearings will be held in suburbs such as Quincy, Waltham and Stoneham. Additionally, residents and businesses can comment on the proposal via email at bostonhazmat@state.ma.us until September 23rd. To read the full article about the hazmat truck re-routing click here.

The Saint Anthony’s Feast in Boston is the largest Italian Religious Festival in New England. The highlight of the Feast is the ten hour procession of the Statue of Saint Anthony through the neighborhood. There will be a variety of other events happening throughout the weekend including: cooking demonstrations, food samplings, as well as an open air Mass in honor of Saint Anthony. This is an event that all residents of the North End and Waterfront communities should not miss. Fisherman’s Feast in the North End this Weekend

Crowd enjoying the Fisherman's Feast in Boston's North End. Oldest Italian Festival in Boston.

Boston’s oldest annual Italian festival is back.  This weekend, the Fisherman’s Feast will once again commemorate the age-old tradition of honoring Madonna del Soccorso.

Much like it has been for the last 100 years, the North End streets will be decorated in lights, lined with vendors, and filled with children playing games and people enjoying wonderful Italian food.

Held in the North End’s historic neighborhood on North and fleet streets, the Feast typically starts on a Thursday when the statue of the Madonna is paraded from her home in the Fisherman’s Club to a chapel at the center of the festival.

Also performed on Thursday is a memorial service on the Waterfront to bless the fishing waters and honor the fishermen who founded the tradition.

It is a wonderful event to behold.  This weekend there will be plenty of entertainment, food (Italian sausages, calamari, pizza, pasta and more!) along with arts and crafts.

The Feast finishes on Sunday night with the grand finale performance of the “Flight of the Angel.”  It certainly is a magical time in the North End that you will not want to miss.

Vote for Christopher Columbus Park!

Filed under: Boston Waterfront Amenities, North End Amenities, North End Boston, Waterfront Boston. • Tags: , . By

Christopher Columbus Park in Boston's North EndIn the heart of Boston’s Waterfront district Christopher Columbus Park is a candidate available for voting in the Coca-Cola “Favorite Park” campaign. Hundreds of Boston residents and non-residents enjoy this park on a daily basis. It’s no wonder why – the park’s location and amenities are ideal for relaxing and enjoying the views of the Boston Harbor.

The Christopher Columbus Park in Boston’s North End was the first waterfront park to be built in the city and originally opened for Boston’s Bicentennial in 1976. A rose garden enclosed by a wrought iron fence and a granite fountain were added about ten years after the park was opened, but the park that people know and love today was updated in 2003 to include broad lawns, a play lot, a spray fountain, performance area, a statue of Christopher Columbus, and a beautiful wisteria-covered trellis.

The Coca-Cola “Favorite Park” campaign is a part of the company’s “America is Your Park” campaign which encourages families to get active outside at local parks around the country. The winning park will receive a $100,000 grant to help improve the area and make it an even better place for families to spend time. Vote for Christopher Columbus Park here to make it America’s “Favorite Park” of 2011!

On July 27, the Saint Joseph Society, a charitable organization based in Boston’s North End, put on the Historic Unity Celebration.  This event was intended to pay homage to the cultures and traditions of the many ethnic groups that have immigrated through Boston’s North End and are now such a strong part of the Boston community.

Although Boston’s largest present-day Chinese population resides in Chinatown, many Chinese entered Boston via the North End. The program featured multiple Chinese dance and musical performances, including a guest dance appearance by one of Shanghai’s most acclaimed dancers!  See more here: http://www.northendwaterfront.com/home/2011/8/3/chinese-music-and-dance-at-the-historic-unity-celebration-in.html

The Stanley Cup once again was raised high over the Boston Waterfront neighborhood with the Boston Bruins and friends. But the celebration didn’t stop here.  The Cup was also paraded through the city on Saturday, starting from the Garden in the North End and through a sea of ‘black & yellow’ all the way to Copley Plaza.  But while it was here on the Waterfront at the Union Wharf luxury buildings, NorthEndWaterfront.com captured these great photos.
